What Makes an Artisan Bygone Sash Window so authentic?
Appearance
Artisan offer a traditional white wood grain effect which looks and feels like wood with the advantages low maintenance , security & longevity of PVC-u. So convincing is this effect that a lot of our customers can’t tell the difference between our timber sash window & our PVC-u sash window.
Continuous Horns.
The Victorians introduced horns in the 1850’s to prevent the sash weights from damaging window frames as sash windows gained extra weight from the thicker and heavier glass.
Most other companies offer stick on horns which look very artificial when compared to our continuous horns.
Deep Bottom Rail.
Originally the bottom rail on the lower sash was far deeper than it’s side members, constructed using 4 or 5 inch deep timbers as the lower rails carried most of the weight.
It would be much cheaper and easier to use the same profile as the sides but this would spoil the authentic appearance and elegant sight lines of the traditional sash window.
Surface Mounted Georgian Bars.
The Georgian bars that create each pane are essential to maintain the traditional look of sash windows. To achieve this Artisan offer a range of putty line or cottage style bars that are bonded to the outside and inside of the glass units giving the authentic appearance of a Georgian sash window.
World Heritage Site
It is no wonder the local authority and conservation officers thought it fit for us to install windows into a B&B within the walls of Conwy Castle a World Heritage site.
"I feel I should write to you to express my satisfaction in the way that your company has conducted itself in respect of the work carried out at my premises in February. It makes a pleasant change to come across a company that is obviously concerned about the customer and this concern was evident from both management and the employees who actually arrived to fit the windows.
The work was carried out in a professional manner and your staff conducted themselves extremely well and are a credit to your company. I will certainly recommend you company in the future and have already had favourable comments from the Planning Dept. in this World Heritage site."

The Artisan Sash Window ,as well as looking like a traditional sash window has the advantages of no painting, tilt option for easy cleaning, sound proofing, thermally efficient, high security , limit stop which allows the openers to only open 100mm, particularly important when you have young children to keep safe and heavy duty torso balances tested to at least 50,000 openings.
